This August saw a line-up of thrilling events — NUSSO started off the new academic year with the annual Student Life Fair, which took place from the 11th to the 13th of August at University Town’s Dance Studio. While some of NUSSO’s musicians were tending NUSSO’s busy and lively booth, some too were also performing in other parts of University Town, playing Daniel Leo Simpson’s Sextet in A Minor, an intriguing contemporary piece for mixed wind and strings.
Next up was NUSSO’s HERE! 2016 performance, which took place on the 19th of August where we played John Williams’ iconic Imperial March, this time under the baton of clarinetist and student conductor Wang Guoli! The performance attracted a lot of audience, who gave an enormous cheer after the piece’s last resounding G note.
Meanwhile, through the help of this year’s Trio Camp and Student Life Fair, NUSSO also saw a substantial number of audition sign ups from talented and passionate musicians coming from various backgrounds in NUS. About fifty of them were now part of our perpetually growing music family. 28th August was then NUSSO’s welcome tea, where new members received a warm welcome to the orchestra and received the opportunity to bond with each other through music, games, and food!
Now that Welcome Tea is over, it is now officially time for members, both old and new, to finally start their engines and prepare intensively for this year’s outreach concert. Do await for more details of NUSSO’s upcoming outreach concert in the next post!
