Miniatures took place on the 20th January 2016. Miniatures, as its name suggests, encourages NUSSO’s musicians to form mini groups and take on chamber music. Chamber music requires musicians to work on their own technical skills while taking into account intricate details played by other players. This poses a challenge and is a good break for orchestral music for all our musicians.
This year, Miniatures took on the theme “It’s About Time!” and presented music that has proven to withstand the pressure of time. From the classical era to the modern pop music, our members chose a wide variety of repertoire to showcase how music has evolved through the ages, yet, still staying relevant today. This concert also saw the return of many of our alumni, which stepped out to help coach and play with our current members.
This was also the first time that we collaborated with the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music for our Miniatures series. Working with music students was a refreshing experience and pushed us to improve ourselves further.
We would like to thank the following people for making this concert a success: our sponsor ExxonMobil, the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, the ExxonMobil Campus Concert Team, the NUS Centre for the Arts, our Music Director Mr Lim Soon Lee and all tutors of the NUS Symphony Orchestra.
